Living Water
If you could choose something in the world to never run out, what would it be? Maybe you’d choose gasoline. Prices would certainly be lower if there were a never-ending supply of gasoline. Or maybe you’d choose money. No one would lack anything. Maybe things would be better if there was a never-ending supply of love and understanding. One person on Reddit said he wanted unlimited pizza. He called it an “Infini-pizza.” What about time? What if there was a never-ending supply of time? In our passage this morning, Jesus offers living water that never runs dry.
The Bread of Life
Have you ever done something for the wrong reason? We see examples of this all the time. People giving to charities for the recognition. Returning a lost item just for the reward. Supporting a person just so that another loses. In John 6, the folks who are following Jesus are doing it for the wrong reason. He calls us to follow Him in faith. Are you following Jesus? For what purpose?
Peace In The Presence Of Jesus
How much does fear motivate you in what you do and think on a day to day basis? Maybe you had to stand up in front of some people and talk. Maybe your mind is wrapped up in what other people are thinking about you. Why do we care so much about what others think? Fear can motivate us in how we raise our children, in what we wear, in how we approach others. John 6 is a story of how Jesus conquers our fears because of who He really is. If God is for us, who can be against us?
Who Do You Think You Are?
Who is Jesus? That is a question that has been discussed and answered by many. Some say Jesus was a great man. Others say that He was a wise teacher and prophet. Still others say that Jesus was a social reformer who challenged the organizations of the time. How you answer the question, "Who is Jesus," means more than just knowing your history. It is a question of life and death. How do you answer it?
Do You Want To Be Healed?
It's hard going through illness or hardship. There is pain, hurt, difficulty, brokenness. All we want is to be better. Jesus comes to a man in John chapter 5 who has been paralyzed for 38 years, and He offers him so much more than this man can hope or imagine. Do you want to be healed? He's asking you the same question!
Faith in Jesus’ Word
Second Corinthians 5:7 tells us that "we walk by faith, not by sight." We live life trusting Jesus when things make sense and when things are very hard to understand. The story we read in the second part of John 4 contrasts two sets of folks: those who walk by faith and those who walk by sight. Will you take Jesus at His Word and trust Him?
The Pilgrim’s Progress: the Christian’s Greatest Earthly Joy
Thanks to Reverend Paul Nasekos for filling the pulpit this week.
Christian, What Do You Believe?
Jude points us to a body of belief, a summary of "the faith that was once for all delivered to the saints," that was established early on in the life of the early church . Where can we find this summary today? Here it is, The Apostles Creed:
We believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Faith in Jesus Christ -What is it?
Faith in Jesus Christ is acknowledging the truth of everything that God has revealed in his Word, trusting in him, and also receiving and resting on him alone for salvation as he is offered to us in the gospel.
By Faith Looking to Jesus
The heroes of faith - they have their "Crown of Glory." Their race is finished, but they are not yet done! Christ has not yet "handed over the Kingdom to God the Father" (I Cor. 15:24), because the full number of God's elect has not yet been harvested. That is why they are the "great cloud of witnesses" eagerly awaiting the outcome of our faith here in the 21st Century and beyond - as long as it takes! To God be the glory!
By Faith Heroes & Martyrs (Part 2)
This long line of saints and sufferers, stretching back through the Old Testament - are they just water under the bridge, old history, irrelevant and forgotten figures of the past? Not at all! The Bible says that "apart from us" they will not "be made perfect." Jesus Christ is the Savior of all who died under the Law, as he is also the Savior of all who live in HIm by grace! Indeed, they surround us even today as a "great cloud of witnesses," eager to see the successful outcome of our faith, that together with them we might be glorified in Him.
By Faith Heroes & Martyrs (Part 1)
Warriors, prophets, survivors and martyrs alike, and the list goes on. What kept them going? What was their super-power? Was it courage? Endurance? Patience? Their stories are all different, but what they all had in common was faith - not super-heroic faith, but plain and simple trusting faith in the God who always keeps his promises and will make us perfect together with them in the end.
By Faith Rahab
She was morally stained, sexually impure, outcast and despised, but nevertheless a choice instrument in the Lord's hands. Why would God choose Rahab to be an ancestor to Jesus Christ? Why would he choose you? ...or me? ...or anyone? It is because of GRACE, and grace alone.
By Faith Moses (Part 2)
The first time Moses left Egypt, he was fleeing for his life. This time, with signs and wonders, plagues and miracles, he walks through the Red Sea on dry ground with all the people of Israel. What was different? How did that happen? According to Hebrews - by faith!
By Faith Moses
A government that kills babies, a culture that is wealthy and luxurious beyond imagination and an oppressed people enduring generations of racism and tyranny. Sound familiar? That was the Egypt where Moses grew up. He could have lived out his days in comfort and ease in Pharaoh's court, but he forsook it all to follow the call of God.
