The Water of Life
In John 4, Jesus meets a woman with a scandalous past. And in a conversation that goes from water to immoral lifestyle to worship, He gets at the very heart of what this woman needs. She needs life. She's looking for life and fulfillment in all the wrong places, and Jesus shows her who He is: the giver of the water of life!
The Answer is Jesus
Have you ever tried putting a puzzle together without the picture on the front of the box? It's not so easy. You don't know which corner is which or if it's upside down. In John chapter 3, both Nicodemus and some of John the Baptizer's disciples are trying to put the puzzle of life together but they're missing pieces. John points us to the answer. It's Jesus!
The New Birth
Jesus tells Nicodemus in John chapter 3 that he must be born again. Contemporary society frequently uses that term, "born again," to describe any significant fresh start. It could be personal self-improvement. It could be a change in career. It could be overcoming trauma or having a second chance at something. According to Jesus, being born again is so much more and it is something every one of us needs.
Worship In Christ
In John chapter 2, you see different sides to Jesus. In the first half of the chapter, Jesus does something very kind for a newlywed couple and their families. But then in the second half of John 2, Jesus does something surprising! He makes a cord of whips, knocks over tables, and chases animals and people from the Temple. Jesus does something sweet! And on the surface, Jesus does something that is terrible. You wouldn't want anyone coming into your house and knocking over tables and rearranging your furniture. You probably wouldn't invite them back. You see, Jesus doesn't fit into the box we want to make for Him. He is beyond our understanding, and He is worthy of our worship!
Something Old, Something New
We love weddings! We love to get lost in the excitement and the sights as we look at the venue, the dress, the rings, the cake! We celebrate as a man and woman begin a new chapter of their lives together. There are so many things to plan and to think about as you prepare for the big day. Imagine if Jesus was on the guest list. What could possibly happen?
Following Jesus!
Jesus doesn't call us to a religion; He calls us to Himself. He calls us to be followers of Christ, having a relationship between us and Him. In this passage, Andrew, Peter, Philip, Nathanael receive the grace from the Lamb of God and follow. We are all being told to "Come and see!"
