We had entered a very challenging time in our 19 years of marriage and our 15 year careers. We knew we needed the body of Christ to help us, but did not know who would be available. Bruce and Kim said yes so quickly and it was a God send. My husband described is as “such a timely meeting from very loving people with great advice”. Our weekly meetings on zoom allowed us to talk about things that we needed help with in order to not grow bitter towards each other or our challenges. We appreciate the truth telling and accountability. Bruce and Kim were on time and provided great accountability for us. Even through zoom, we felt so connected and we know that was Holy Spirit. We were continually encouraged by remembering that people were praying for us too! There were days where I would think, “Wow God- this is not as hard as it has been. I would humbly remember it was likely because of the team of people praying and Jesus was adding His super to our natural.”

We are thankful for this season of healing, that we can duplicate when we need it! The time investment yielded great returns!

“My wife and I have been married now for almost 21 years. We have four children, two boys (9 and 11) and two girls (15 and 17). We have lived in 10 different homes all over the country and have traveled the world together. We currently live in a beautiful home on a few acres in a small community. I own my own business. We are active members in our church, and our kids are all doing very well in school. They all play multiple sports and other activities. We live a very busy and full life. By all Christian and American standards, we are living the perfect life. And yet, inside our hearts, my wife and I were struggling to hold it all together. We were reaching a breaking point. We knew that we needed help, but we didn’t know where to go or what to do. So, we started praying for the Lord’s direction.

We have known the Hoskets for over 25 years, and when they asked us if we would be willing to get together and talk about Renew Ministry, we did not hesitate. At the same time, we didn’t really know what to expect. We just knew that they were friends who loved the Lord that we could trust and respect. Over the next couple of months, Bruce and Kim spent time serving and loving us in ways that we had never experienced before. They helped us uncover areas in our lives that have impacted our marriage: how we raise our children, prioritize our time, spend our money. We were able to learn and process so much of who we are in Christ and how we can better serve one another in our marriage. We talked and walked through core needs as men and women and pinpointed ways to ultimately better love and serve one another. It was a humbling and challenging experience that ultimately pointed us to Christ. He is our Rock and Redeemer. He is Faithful and Good. He fills and enables us to love one another as He has loved us. Without Him, our marriage was going to crumble.

The Hoskets came alongside us to remind us of the truth and to walk it with us. I know that the Lord has incredible and undeniable plans for Renew Ministry. The Lord’s timing is perfect, and we are forever grateful for the Hoskets’ willingness to follow His leading. We are excited to see the Lord’s continued work in their lives, in our lives, and in many couples to come. “We got involved with Renew Ministry out of curiosity to learn more about it and how we could come alongside in prayer and support. We set up a time to get together and to our surprise, we were treated as potential participants. After hearing what Renew was offering, we realized that this was an amazing, unexpected answer to prayer. In a very short period of time, through the tools given us, the Lord moved in our hearts and minds, which unburdened our relationship. For me, the wife, I became overwhelmingly aware that all my frustrations were centered around what I wanted, what I expected, and what I thought was right. Seeing that in writing was very convicting. Being able to forgive and be forgiven was huge. Having a clean slate was very freeing and helps me want to keep the slate clean. Sharing our identity in Christ with each other provided not only an affirmation of who we are in Christ but actually seeing my spouse in that truth. My husband says he tries not to remember any unpleasantness or undesirable habits but realized that he was withholding my love language from me because he believed I was withholding his. We both feel and believe our time with the Hoskets was totally of the Lord and we, with His help, will continue to live out what He has shown us.

I wore a smile that masked sleepless nights, the anxiety of raising multiple children in different phases of life, job-related stress, and a marriage that had become so distant, it felt like we lived in two different places.
